My responsibilities
Pest control must be authorised and lawful for the species, location and method.
Permission
I establish that the person agreeing the pest control has authority to grant me relevant access and shooting permission. Before control begins, I require a signed BASC pest control permission slip, with a copy retained by both parties.
Lawful control
I am responsible for complying with firearms and wildlife law, including any certificate conditions that apply to the equipment I use.
Wild birds are protected by law. Where control is carried out under a licence, the species, reason for control and circumstances must fall within its terms. This includes any requirements to consider alternative methods.
People and property
Shooting permission does not remove public rights of way or extend to neighbouring land. I remain responsible for taking account of other people, livestock, buildings, roads and the limits of the agreed area.
